About

SNOClass Mission

The project aims to map the reference terminology SNOMED CT to 3 healthcare classifications. These classifications are the International Classification of Functioning (WHO ICF), the International Classification of Health Interventions (WHO ICHI), and the International Classification of Primary Care (ICPC-3). The project uses advanced methodologies and exploits the internal structure of SNOMED CT and the above classifications. It utilizes standardized evaluation to guarantee the quality of the mappings.

Vision statement

Health care providers are called upon to accurately register the medical encounters with their patients in an electronic health record.
When health data are recorded in an interoperable way, these can be used to advance the quality of care. They can drive innovation and research. Many uses are possible for high quality clinical care and for research.
SNOMED CT is an international reference terminology that covers the breadth of clinical health care. SNOClass aims to help medical disciplines in their daily work. It also supports allied health personnel with the forthcoming adoption of SNOMED CT in EHR systems. It uses state-of-the art technology to build clinical terminological resources. These help translate the everyday language of each discipline into SNOMED CT concepts. Carefully created mappings convert these into each aforementioned classification.

SNOClass will allow the creation of sophisticated end-user tools. These tools will reduce the burden of data entry. They will also improve clinical care and research work. Additionally, the project will help each discipline to map the reference terminology to their respective classification(s), relevant for their domain.
